The holiday farmhouse “Antico Porto della Chiana” located on the foothills of Cortona is immersed in the heart of Valdichiana in one of the most charming sceneries of Tuscany. Its location makes the farmhouse an ideal base for trips to some of the most interesting towns and cities of Central Italy such as Florence, Arezzo, Siena, Assisi, Perugia, the ancient town of Cortona and its rich historic and artistic heritage as well as charming medieval towns such as Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pienza, Rapolano and Bagno Vignoni.
The estate consists of a farmhouse consisting in turn of 5 apartments, a practical barbecue facility with a nice kiosk located right next to it where guests will be able to have pleasant outdoor dinners in the summertime as well as an amazing 16 x 40 foot swimming-pool  surrounded by a charming garden where guests will be able to enjoy romantic sunsets and the breath-taking view of Cortona. The estate also includes the vast expanses of land surrounding it; these are criss-crossed by charming country tracks where guests will be able to take quiet and relaxing walks in the shimmer of the golden wheat surrounded by the rich yellow of sunflowers and the purple of Lucerne flowers against the backdrop of matchless landscape.
The location and the atmosphere of the “Antico Porto della Chiana” will be the ideal ingredients to spend restful and relaxing holidays steeped in the greenery of Tuscan countryside. The farmhouse provides at the same time a strategic base for trips to the most interesting destinations of Central Italy.

The Agriturismo “Antico Porto della Chiana” took its name from the origins of the old farmhouse. This dates in fact back to the 1300s when the Valdichiana was covered by a swamp and the old farmhouse used to serve as a port.
The Valdichiana, known in ancient times as the Clanis (Chiana) was a swamp that was closely observed by some of the greatest figures of those times such as Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo, Torricelli and many others. It is just thanks to the documents that were passed down in time by the latter that we could go back to the very origins of the farmhouse that once served as a port.
After the reclamation of the swamp the port was converted into the home of the farmers that cultivated the surrounding land; here the farmers could find a wood-burning oven, a granary and a cattle-shed on the ground floor whilst the first floor serving as the dwelling of the farmers stood out for its typical loggias opening out onto the huge expanse of the valley.
After extensive restoration work was carried out on the farmhouse 5 large apartments were created and the old loggias were restored to their original use allowing thus guests to enjoy the charm of a unique landscape in a setting that largely remained unchanged throughout the centuries.
The original small windows open out onto stunning views of the surrounding landscape and the old walls still remind us of stories of times gone by thanks to the original “buttress” walls that were typical of old ports.
